Not the why... but the hate for me!

Welcome! I first learned about the fire community when I found Mr. Money Mustache. But at the time my then boyfriend, now husband thought I was crazy.

A few years, promotions and income growth later and now we're on the journey of #financialfreedom. I guess in some ways we still don't even know what that really does mean to us. Is it working less or becoming a barista? Or is it starting a whole new career path with the financial support to know it would be OK to fail?

Right now, were going through the journey of paying off debt while also generating as much wealth as we can. I love Dave Ramsey and his steps but we did things a bit differently like buying a house before we were even married. I also for the first time almost maxed out my 401k in 2020... yet I still have a loan out on my car. I think our experiences shape who we are and what we value. It also can change the way we go about financial success. I know what compounded interest and #investments can do with time. Learned that quickly from a few books I've read. I know paying down that car bill isn't serving any purpose right now but getting ahead on a retirement account that will benefit from the time is key. For me, that's important. Watching my parents have no retirement plan, no 401k or support as they get older drives that focus specifically for me.

My best advice this far into this journey is to do what works best for you. What motivates you? What keeps you up at night? What energizes you? The small things keep you going when you have nothing left. When it's hard what makes it easy... hold on to that.

I see this everywhere.. "find your why" I hate the term. I think life changes so much that your "why" will change also. Dare I say it.. what do you HATE? What do you despise? What makes you feel weak or vulnerable? What/who takes your POWER away? For me it's always been the control of money having over my life. Staying at jobs I hate, working with or for people who aren't that great. Being underpaid and feeling as though you have no way to be valued for what you bring to the table because employers know you need a paycheck and job hunting can lead to uncertainty. I hate feeling #powerless more than any "why" I could ever have.

So I'm here to find the #freedom, to feel less vulnerable. To be powerful and not need to settle for any job, stress or workload that doesn't return in equal parts of financial gains, experience or passion. I'm here to build F YOU money so when that moment comes where my value, time and life isn't aligning with my work I can leave without a worry or a care in the world.

Now, that my friends...is a good starting place. That hate will fuel me when I'm tired, lost, doubting myself and need that extra boost.

I created #MondayMillennial to find more likeminded people.. a community of individuals who can understand me. It's been fun so far and I'm looking forward to writing on this blog to find even more of my people. I want to share my wins, losses and best tips along the way. Hopefully learn a few more things from you all to help me stay on track.

Keep going!
